"As many of you have heard over the past few months, the HB Co-Op School Board formed a commission to assess the utilization of the high school & middle school athletic fields. The charge also included exploring the viability of constructing a multipurpose athletic field for sports requiring rectangular playing areas. The commission interviewed multiple engineering firms specializing in university and high school athletic facility development, and selected Tighe & Bond out of Portsmouth, NH. The Co-Op accepted the commission’s selection and approved a budget to perform a feasibility study for current field utilization and a multipurpose field.

"A public forum is scheduled for December 16th, 7:00 PM in the HB Middle School multipurpose room to share the results of the feasibility study with the Hollis and Brookline communities. Tighe & Bond will be presenting their findings and recommendations followed by Q&A. A copy of their report and a preliminary layout are attached for your information. Please note, this layout does not depict ancillary items such as concessions and restroom facilities, which are part of the initial project scope. Additional supporting information will be sent separate email due to file sizes. Please note, the attached 11-11-2013 report containing corrections supersedes a draft report previously circulated to a limited audience.

"The scope of the engineering firm’s work included:

·         Evaluate the current athletic field utilization for the outdoor Fall & Spring sports

·         Recommendations for existing fields

·         Prepare preliminary layout of a multipurpose field

·         Determine feasibility of potential sites for locating the field

o    Wetlands delineation

o    Test pits to assess subsurface soil conditions

This is early in the process of a project of this scale, and many questions will arise. Undoubtedly, there will be many questions regarding the HB High School NEASC accreditation status and how the Co-Op is addressing these concerns. A separate feasibility study has been initiated to assess academic needs, the school board can provide comments regarding the status and their plans during the forum.

"The public forum is a great opportunity for everyone to learn more about the project, school needs, the Co-Op’s goals, and the process involved in bringing any athletic facility improvements to fruition. Please relay this invitation to friends and neighbors and encourage them to attend and learn more about this project. I hope that as many people as possible will attend to take advantage of this forum. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,
